Emmanuelle Moureaux: Acrylic Furniture

'Kodachi' ('grove' in English) is a stand for fragrance sticks. Each of the 14 colored acrylic vessels are embedded into a larger transparent acrylic box.



French-born and Tokyo-based designer Emmanuelle Moureaux has created the 'Shibafu table'.
56 slender colored acrylic sticks are randomly arranged into a piece of transparent acrylic, creating an aesthetic, reminiscent of a colorful shibafu or lawn. The sticks support the transparent acrylic panel, while refracting and reflecting light as if they were soaking under water.

The colored sticks appear and disappear, and even seem to bend at times depending on the angle
at which you view them.

The starting point for the 'stick chair' comes for the pick-up sticks game 'mikado', which originated in europe. 7 round wooden sticks are placed obliquely in order to properly support the heavy piece of acrylic which forms the seat. Although the chair does not look stable, the arrangement of the sticks provides a structural balance.

Visually, an 'unbalanced balance'.

An accessories box which draws on the form of sageju or japanese tiered lunch boxes.The parts can be arranged freely like a three-dimensional puzzle, making it possible to enjoy the piece in many different combinations of colors. It is designed to act as storage for cosmetics and accessories, and can also be used in the office for small stationary items.

The acrylic x komono series of products is a design collaboration between Emmanuelle, acrylic brand Waazwiz and Japanese cosmetic brand Pola, with SCV (Shizuoka Contents Valley Consortium) and Sachio Hihara's initiative.

The designer Tokujin Yoshioka has just designed this “invisible” collection of pieces of furniture for the Kartell mark. This chair with the purified lines and the modern design is the example. It was carried out thanks to the technology of polycarbonate.

Israeli born, Paris based designer Arik Levy has created 'confession' a limited edition of seating furniture for the home. This object in two parts, is a kind of modern home confessional.

By borrowing one of the catholic church’s communications tools, he reworks the proportions to create an object with a seating area larger than the traditional
version.

'Confession' will be on display as part of the 'preliminaires' exhibition presented by
gallery slot, paris during milan design week 2010 at the straf hotel.

Dumpling Backpack

The Dumpling, inspired by the delicious pouch foods, is a backpack that treats your belongings as color coded and compartmentalized items. The backpack is actually made up of a series of roll-up bags. Take only what you need and roll them up into the main support guard which is quite simple in design – a couple straps and a big hook. It looks crafty but something about it is very attractive.

BMW Kvadrat: The Dwelling Lab

For this year's milan design week, BMW and danish textile company Kvadrat are collaborating with designers Patricia Urquiola and GiulioRidolfo on an installation called 'the dwelling lab'.

The project explores the interior and exterior of the new BMW 5 series gran turismo.It is constructed from five geometrical cones, which are impacted into a model of the car.

The cones are covered in Kvadrat textiles and provide five different points of view into the vehicle.The partner lighting company on the project is FLOS.

'The Dwelling Lab' will be on show at the Kvadrat showroom, Corso Monforte 15, Milan
from April 14th - 19th, 2010.

Viktor & Rolf Fall 2010 Runway Show

Here’s video of the Viktor & Rolf Fall 2010 runway show, which took place in Paris a few days back. The show was entitled ‘Glamour Factory,” and according to Wallpaper, the show opened with model Kristen McMenamy dressed in 23 (!!) layers. The designers then undressed Kristen and put the garments on other models until Kristen was completely undressed. They then reversed the process and relayered her until she was back to her original multi-layered outfit.

Crazy dramatic.

Keith Haring chocolates

Lady Gaga by David O’Reilly - In 3 D

Berlin based animator David O’Reilly has re-created Lady Gaga in his typical 3D style. Previously we have seen him work on neon visuals for MIA and a video for U2.

“What is it about Gaga? “I like her for the same reason I like 3D––it ends up being more truthful by being more fake.””
