Brooklyn-based furniture designers Hellman-Chang recently teamed up with Swarovski to create a special collection of tables, which were displayed at ICFF. The limited edition series is comprised of Hellman-Chang’s most iconic pieces exquisitely accented with Swarovski “crystalized” elements.

Each piece is numbered and made by hand in Hellman-Chang’s Brooklyn studio. The tables are available in Powder White or Jet Black in either matte or high-polish.

Origins of the Vitra Design Museum Collections

The Vitra Design Museum collections evolved from modest beginnings in the 1980s to become one of the world’s most important collections of modern furniture. It was founded on two furniture collections – one compiled by Rolf Fehlbaum and the other by Alexander von Vegesack.

Viktor & Rolf Retrospective Dolls

Petite in scale, though hardly diminutive in concept and artistry, Dutch design duo Viktor & Rolf's retrospective spans 17 years of innovative and boundary-pushing fashion at Antwerp's Studio Job Gallery.

The exhibit, comprised of more than 30 dolls—one doll to represent each collection they've done to date since their idiosyncratic brand's formation in 1993—epitomizes Viktor Horsting and Rolf Shoeren's eccentric, often quirky regard for fashion design, the notion of wearable clothing versus wearable art and its extension beyond the human form.

The Lilliputian examples include some of the designers' most recognizable pieces to date, from a sensational all-white gown from the duo's first haute couture collection (Spring/Summer 1998) to a full-body "Russian doll" cape from the Fall 199 collection (both pictured above), as well as an exquisite replica of the red quilted "duvet-and-pillow" coatdress from their much-publicized Fall/Winter 2005 collection.

In 2008, the London's Barbican Centre exhibited a retrospective of Viktor & Rolf's work, which also included a smaller, earlier collection of dolls modeling their clothes. Both exhibitions further prove the duo's mastery of miniature costumes.

Keith Haring chocolates

Vitra Haus by Herzog & de Meuron

Vitra Haus, the new home of Vitra's Home Collection, has been covered widely by design media, and not in vain. It is a beautiful example of Jacques Herzog's and Pierre de Meuron's ability to take the ubiquitous stacked-houses concept and still make it look new, interesting and inviting.

Reaching five storeys in height and containing 12 separate houses, Vitra House is geared toward the general public, design-aware consumers who will appreciate the building as well as the Vitra products inside. The entire contraption appears both grandiose and intimate at the same time, with the gray exterior disguising the disheveled heap within the site, while the open glass-walled ends and stark, white interiors facilitate the presentation of residential-scale displays.




Vitra House is the latest addition to the ever-expanding Vitra Campus that started as an industrial park with the manufacturing facilities. Now the Vitra Design Museum--Frank Gehry's first European building opened in 1989 -- the Conference Pavilion by Tadao Ando (1993) and the Fire Station by Zaha Hadid (1993) already provide magnificent visual attraction. Vitra Haus and a new circular manufacturing facility by Kazuyo Sejima/SANAA are this year's entrants to the site.

Weil am Rhein is a German town and a community that is a suburb of the Swiss city of Basel in Switzerland. Weil am Rhein is located by the River Rhine, close to the meeting point of the Swiss, German and French borders. The Vitra Design Museum is the town's biggest draw.



The Basel-based architecture firm Herzog and Meuron was established in 1978 by Jacques Herzog (born 19 April 1950), and Pierre de Meuron (born 8 May 1950). It is known for many prominent international commissions, including the Beijing Olympics' "Bird's Nest."
