Nine Hours Boutique Hotel

Designed by Tokyo-based company Design Studio S, the Nine Hours (9h) is a unique boutique hotel in Kyoto, Japan. The hotel offers luxury and minimalist aesthetics in a tiny living space, featuring 125 rooms (capsule units), personal lockers, showers, and a lounge.

The concept of this capsule hotel is based on a comfortable place to rest while in transit in big cities in Japan; 1 hour shower, 7 hours of sleep, and a one hour break = 9h total. Guests can spend up to 17 hours in a single stay.

The hotel’s interior design consists of clean lines, crisp White color with a touch of Black, and beautiful graphical icons to guide you through the different areas.Each capsule includes high-quality bed sheets, slippers, toothbrush, shampoo & conditioner, body soap, bottled water and a smart system by Panasonic, where according to the time set, the light will wake you up.

This minimalist lounge chair, with its low-slung suspended seat and simple, wooden base, was developed by Pillet and produced by Porro as part of the complete supply order for the rooms of the Hotel Sezz in Saint Tropez.

The Orb House by Bojan Simic

Australian architect Bojan Simic has designed the Orb House in Melbourne, Australia.

Description of the Orb House by Bojan Simic:

‘Orb House’ adopts a minimalist aesthetic as a counterpoint to the heavy handed, utilitarian architectural fabric that makes up it’s streetscape tapestry. Located on a unique site descending rapidly towards the Yarra River and Yarra Bend Golf Course, it is less a protest statement than an exploration of contrasts through purity of form – a simple transparent circle in a congested patchwork quilt.

Inspired by the dwellings of ancient Pompeii, our approach was to create a tranquil introspective living environment based on the central courtyard typology around which all living, working and entertaining orbits. The building’s form and footprint is characterized by a curved central spine wall which defines two distinct zones – the ‘living’ zone within the rim and the ‘sleeping’ zone beyond. This defining rim provides interiors with a theatrical backdrop while creating intimate residual spaces externally.

A monochromatic palette of materials and textures augment the minimalist geometry of the composition. Aspect and light are dramatically introduced via frameless thermal glass curtain walls utilizing commercial glazing technology.

Aspiring towards a future residential prototype the ‘Orb House’ adopts tried and tested methodologies from the ancient past – a ‘back to the future’ kind of approach.

Karl Lagerfeld Designs Luxury Safe

Safety-minded narcissists have a new ally in designer Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld has partnered with German luxury safe maker Döttling to create the Narcissus, a limited edition safe that weighs over 1,700 pounds and is clad in high-gloss chrome-plated aluminum. The gleaming monolith is just under six-feet tall and less than a foot deep.

The project took approximately two years from concept to completion. When activated twin doors slide open to reveal watch winders and jewelry drawers. The chilly minimalist design seems like it would suit a villain in a James Bond movie. There will be just 30 safes made and each sells for 250,000 euros. The first safe went to Lagerfeld himself.
