b Store for Dover Street Market “10 for DSM” Collection

British menswear label/store b Store teams up with London’s Dover Street Market on a special collaboration for the Winter season, entitled “10 for DSM.” The lineup looks to feature 11 different best-seller pieces, reworked in new fabrics, each made exclusively for Dover Street Market as as well The Corner within Isetan Tokyo. Only 10 items of each style will be made available to each store, including four shirts, trousers, a blazer, jackets and footwear, all following a classic design aesthetic synonymous with b Store’s in-house fashion label. A release is expected for December 2009.

Gucci x UNICEF 5th Anniversary Collection

To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Gucci Campaign to benefit Unicef Frida Giannini put a very playful spain on the luxury label by choosing author and illustrator Michael Roberts to create a sequel his children’s book, Snowman in Paradise.

The new book, titled Snowman in Africa, will be exclusively on sale in Gucci stores and on Gucci.com from November 16-31, 2009 with a retail price of $25. Gucci will donate 100% of the retail price of the book to Unicef. The partnership also includes a capsule collection of bags and accessories featuring Roberts Illustrations as well as a gift card.

Out of Africa by Charlotte van den Bran

"Mama Africa" has always been a source of inspiration for many people. The African civilization has also influenced the last projects of Charlotte van den Brand who managed to combine the primitive and wild with the modern and stylish.

Travelling is seeing but it’s also a great way to open new horizons and gain new experiences. Meeting different people, places and cultures can be easily transformed to a source of inspiration and that’s the case of Charlotte van den Brand. Her recent travels to the African Continent has served as a vehicle to an adventurous journey in the design world. As a young designer who recently graduated from Design Academy Eindhovel has kept and used all the valuable assets before she starts experimenting with new concepts. The mix of these assets with the traditional elements of Africa had as a result interesting objects that capture the attention and make an impression.

The Pattern Cabinet owes its existence to the African rhythmic patterns. Following the puzzle philosophy it is made out of four parts that fall into place just like the pieces of a puzzle. From a different point of view the Pattern cabinet could be easily described as a “TETRIS” concept. Everyone who had the chance to play this game can identify the similarities as in Charlotte’s Cabinet every element fits exactly with the others by placing one into the other just like in Tetris. When the furniture is closed it is a cabinet with a traditional African pattern. In case of extra space is needed the pattern gets bigger by pulling the loose elements. This way the size can be doubled in order to ensure that more objects can be placed in this beautiful piece of furniture.

In the case of the Telephone Wire Table the idea came from the African Telephone wire weaving, so characteristic of the South African community. This is a traditional old technique that was forgotten as the time passed by. Charlotte managed to identify the potential of this technique and following the African culture which obtains the greatest profit of any resources she created a table with attention to detail, a western design furniture with an African touch. The origins of this concept can be easily detected by paying attention to the hand woven technique from one hand and the use of bright colors from the other. Two elements that are so profoundly registered in the African culture are now present in Charlotte’s project, a piece that anyone can touch and feel.

Sebastopol Residence by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects

Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects have designed a home in Sebastopol, California.

Designed for two graphic designers, this house bridges between two stands of redwood trees, with the northern window wall facing out to the expansive view. Decks located at either end of the house open onto paths that lead to the pool on one side and the studio/garage on the other. The southern elevation screens the interior from the driveway and road above, but allows southern light in through the clerestory windows. As you enter, a dormer rises up over the dining area to frame the view. The main house is modest in size, only 1,700 square feet, but feels spacious due to an open floor plan. The clients’ wonderful art objects are housed in the long southern wall bookcase. The exterior is clad in cedar siding with a metal roof and the interior features a Douglas fir ceiling and decking, sheetrock walls and Ipe flooring.

Craig “KR” Costello x MINI x Vicious Gallery | Detailed Photos

New York-base artist Craig “KR” Costello, or simply known as KRINK, returned to Hamburg Germany’s Vicious Gallery for a very special project this Halloween weekend, the very first “KRINK MINI”. A couple bottles of KRINK special formulated paint, a brand new MINI COOPER S, generously provided by its parent company BMW, was covered in KR’s signature drip paint pattern in no time.
The installation also serves as a centerpiece to the new KR exhibition currently taking place at the gallery.
